2015 What a Year

Weddings

As 2015 comes to a close today I can’t help but think about how great this year was! 2015 was my 2nd year of being a full-time photographer, and the growth that came with being in my 2nd full-time year was amazing! In 2014 I did 10 weddings, this year I photographed 20 along with 9 I was the second photographer on!

Stats of 2015-
# of photos taken: 30,000+
# Miles Traveled: 9000
# of Blog Post: 75
# of Portrait sessions: 30
# of Weddings: 20
# of Engagement sessions: 16
# of Weddings I was the 2nd photographer: 9
# of States traveled: 4 (Washington, Oregon, California & Montana)
# of Stylized shoots: 4
# of Photography workshops: 2

One of my goals for 2015 was to blog more, I started doing that with Mia’s 365 to keep my blogging on a weekly basis but due to a busy summer full of weddings I couldn’t continue to do the project like I was hoping to so my weekly blogging stop before I was done with her year but I continued to blog post about her periodically when I would do a random shoot, most of the time on a milestone like a monthly birthday.

Also in 2015 I had 30 portrait session, even though I market myself as a wedding photographer I still really enjoy doing portrait session of families, couples, seniors or even a headshot or two.

I had the great pleasure of being part of 20 amazing couples wedding days, I originally had a goal of 15 weddings for 2015 but by June I quickly surpassed that and ended up having 20 including 2 out-of-state, 3 courthouse ceremonies and lots of amazing ones here in the awesome Pacific Northwest!

I also had 16 engagement sessions this year, a few were my non wedding couples but mostly were my couples who were getting married in 2015 or have yet to and are getting hitched in 2016!

I also got to work with 3 amazing photographers this year on their own clients wedding as their 2nd shooter. In working with them I gained 3 new friends Casey of Phreckle Face Photography, Lindsey of Lindsey Denman Photography & Bre of Bre Z Photography. I got to go to some amazing weddings including one in Montana with Lindsey.

In 2015 I had the wonderful opportunity to do 4 different stylized shoots ranging from adult sisters in the snow, to an engagement session up in Leavenworth to two bridal shoots one amazing one at Abiqua Falls in Oregon and one at Mountain View Manor on the day after the 4th of July.

Another goal of mine for 2015 was to focus on education and learning from some of the most successful photographers in the country. In March I attended Melissa Kilners “Unfiltered” Workshop. She focused a lot on posing and since taking her workshop my posing been amazing. Part of being a good photographer is knowing how to pose your subjects so that they are comfortable in front of the camera & look natural instead of stiff. Having good posing skills can take you from being a good photographer to a great one. Capturing your subjects connection with their fiance or family while feeling comfortable in front of the camera is the goal of every photographer. And second workshop was The Blink Conference I attend in Austin, Texas back in November. It was 4 days of self discovery and getting to hear from some amazing photographers. Coming out of Blink really made me start to realize where I want to take my company, not to focus on what others are doing and to take that energy and put it towards becoming a better photographer!

2015 was my 2nd full year being a full-time photographer and I couldn’t have asked for anything better. As we turn another page on another year I am very excited for 2016. So far I have 7 weddings officially booked for 2016 and I hope to triple that number by the time wedding seasons comes around. I am also looking to change my branding and the look of Jenny Storment Photography. I have changed a lot in the 5 years since my logo was made and even a lot in the year since I redid my website. I feel my style is classic & timeless, it’s time to change my brand to reflect this. A few goals I hope to accomplish for my company is to maintain doing 20+ weddings a year, to maintain my blogging and I plan to blog EVERY SINGLE WEDDING for next year within a month of shooting it. This year I did pretty good but there were a few that just flew between the cracks due to no time. I am so excited to see what this new year will bring for me and my company. Happy New Year everyone!
