The idea of our elopement styled shoot started with my good friend Casey who had checked out Wahclella Falls in Oregon last year and had told me she really wanted to collaborate on an elopement styled shoot there. After talking about it for a while Casey said we should also bring in my other friend Rebecca because she really wanted to get to know her better and Rebecca is awesome at putting together styled shoots. Rebecca and I did the Abiqua Falls shoot last year together with a bunch of other photographers so I knew we could totally do Wahclella Falls especially since it’s a much easier hike in.

Once everyone was on board we started the planning process since schedules were a little crazy we ended up doing a skype meeting which was pretty great because we could share links of ideas and dress we thought would work. I had a Rent the Runway credit from a previous shoot I canceled and offered to use it towards this shoot so we could have more than one dress. Very quickly we all agreed that we wanted our couple to get into the water so we would need to buy a dress that we could get wet. Rebecca found an awesome dress from Lulu’s which we felt would be perfect for photos in front of the falls and to get wet. We all agreed we wanted a flowy long dress that was in a bold color. So the dress from Rent the Runway would be a little bit more formal and maybe flowy too. Next, we agreed we would need a florist that could do a pretty organic looking bouquet & flower head crown. Casey knew of one in the Portland area from a workshop she did on the Oregon coast. She contacted Katie of Dearhouse Collection to see if she wanted to be part of this awesome elopement styled shoot we were planning and of course, she was on board!

Next was trying to find a couple who was one, willing to travel down to Wahclella Falls and secondly had a weekday off. Because Wahclella Falls is only a mile hike in and a pretty easy hike we knew that trying to do this shoot on a weekend would be crazy so we decided weekdays only. Both Casey and I put out model calls with no luck thankfully Rebecca did have luck and ended up with a few couples who were open and wanted to be part of our shoot. We decided on the couple (Jessie & Aaron) and they coordinated their schedules to make it work and we were set!

Then the week of our shoot I got an email from Rent the Runway saying one of the sizes of our dress we rented wasn’t available and we could choose a new one up to double what we paid for our rental for free. So I quickly reached out to the girls and we picked 5 dresses to send to Rent the Runway. Well, I got an email back from them letting them know that because our options were below what we paid and it was their error they would be sending us 2 dresses instead of just one! This was amazing news and we quickly went from 2 dresses to 4 giving us way more options.

The day of the shoot we drove down to Wahclella Falls together the 3 of us. We got our game plan together on which dress we would start with and how we would coordinate the 3 of us shooting together and all those other fine details. When we got to the falls it was beautiful, it was sunny pretty warm and also pretty busy for a Thursday. We decided to start back from the falls a bit at these really cool huge boulders. We started in one our free dresses which were stunning but once Jessie put it on we noticed there were some huge holes in the lace which was a huge downer for me. I ended up not using any of those photos because of the holes. Next, we had Jessie get into the Tena Gown from ML Monique Lhuillier which was a huge ball gown type dress. It was stunning and perfect for doing some wide angle shots and our table setup.

Rebecca was our queen of details and brought a ton of detail props she had from previous styled shoots. We found a rock that was perfect for a table and that had the falls in the background! Rebecca even brought floating candles which made such a perfect extra touch! After the table shots & details, it was time to change dresses again. We had her put on our original pick from Rent the Runway and we all hated how it looked on Jessie, it wasn’t flattering at all so we decided let’s just get to our beautiful Lulu’s dress and have that be our last dress change. Aaron switched into a suit and went barefoot which made it so perfect! We also put our flower crown on for this dress which looked so great with it! After getting some different angles higher up at the falls we moved Jessie & Aaron down to right in front of the falls and got some amazing wide angle shots! Then it was time to get in the water….. We had to work fast because it was cold and we didn’t want Jessie & Aaron to get too cold and while they were fully clothed. Let me tell you those water photos are HOT and so sexy! I am beyond excited to share these photos and it’s taken my all to hold back and not share till today!  Because I have so many amazing photos from Lulu’s dress I am going to be doing another blog post so watch out for it! Until then enjoy our amazing shoot from Wahclella Falls!

Absolutely beautiful! From the falls and the precise props to the amazing couple! Well done ladies!

  2. […] I have lived in Washington state my whole life (minus the 3 months I lived in Cape Town, South Africa) but sometimes I forget how beautiful it is here. How we live in a place where the sea and the mountains meet. Not everyone has this, not everyone has green trees year round. Not everyone has epic mountains or waterfalls that you can hike to. Well recently have become aware of how much people love our state & the Pacific Northwest and how they want to come here to get married. And not just any normal, traditional wedding nope they come here to elope. When I say elope I mean let’s go find a mountain top and get married there. Or let’s find a pretty waterfall and get married there. This month alone I have 2 elopements, one from a couple traveling from Florida and the second based out of JBLM and just want a small ceremony with a pretty mountain in the background. So stay tune for those epic photos but until then here is the rest of my Wahclella Falls styled elopement shoot…. To see part 1 check it out HERE! […]
