Kayla & Marijo’s engagement session I did earlier this month was so beautiful and really showed these ladies love for each other. Kayla & Marijo met via an online dating website due to their busy work schedules. Kayla told me about their first date which is a pretty funny story.  Marijo was so nervous she had a stomach ache, and text-ed Kayla the day of saying she might not be able to make it. (She didn’t mention the nerves, just her stomach pain.) Marijo decided to make herself go, and showed up at the restaurant early. Then she thought maybe if she ate something, it would calm her stomach, so she text-ed Kayla to ask if she minded if she ate without her! Kayla couldn’t believe it, a coworker told her this was a red flag and she should consider canceling the date. Who has dinner without their date on the first date? Anyway, in the end, Marijo waited for her and they had dinner and talked for hours, then went dancing for hours more. It was perfect and also clear that neither one of them wanted the night to end.

Shortly after they met in 2012, we went hiking near Mt. Rainier to Summit Lake and had a magical, falling-in-love time. So last July, Kayla & Marijo both called out of work in the middle of the week on a gorgeous summer day to do the Summit Lake hike again. Marijo asked Kayla on the shore of the beautiful crystal clear mountain lake. She had written the most thoughtful, incredible proposal and read it to Kayla. Then they went swimming and drank a great bottle of wine that Marijo had brought to celebrate, it was perfect Kayla said.

For their engagement session we headed to Point Defiance Park on a beautiful spring evening! Even caught the last of the Cherry Blossoms then headed down to Owens beach for a few picnic photos.

I have to admit I have never photographed a same-sex engagement session but I was super excited to and hope to continue to photography same-sex couples in the future. I am so excited for these ladies wedding in July, it’s going to be such an amazing day!
