The Blink Conference: My Mentors

Personal

Well because I got a little long winded for my first blog post about The Blink Conference I felt it was probably a good idea to talk about my time with my mentors in a separate blog post. At Blink you get two times to be with the mentors you signed up for. I originally had my shoot with Katelyn James but do to her being sick with pneumonia, her shoot was canceled and I switched to the amazing Reg Campbell out of Houston, Texas. Reg’s shoot was an engagement shoot and since he is a primarily film shooter we talked about getting your camera setup so you don’t always rely on your screen and getting your settings setup correctly so you can get it right in camera first then your post time will be less. He also made us turn off our screens and make us move around after we took one shot in the location we were. Our location was at the fabulous Lone Star Court which was where we stayed and also where Blink was being held. I really learned a lot from him and am taking his tips to making my job easier especially with not over shooting since I tend to have a problem with that.

On the final morning of Blink we had our other break out sessions and mine was with Justin & Mary on off camera lighting. I had studied off camera lighting in college but really hadn’t worked with it much since graduating due to either a lack of confidence or just pure laziness who knows. But the things Justin and Mary talked about all came right back to me and gave me a new found confidence in handling off camera lighting, as you can see in my last wedding of 2015 I had right after Blink that I was forced to get creative and use off camera lighting. Thanks Justin for being our model & helping us understand off camera lighting in a location situation.

It was really an amazing 4 days, I learned so much from all the speakers and also where I hope to take my business. I have some big plans for 2016 for Jenny Storment Photography including my look, my branding, website and logo. So watch out world I really am hoping for some big things to come in my future and my business’s future.
