The following blog took place in April 2007 while I was living in Cape Town, South Africa: So one of my very first days in Cape Town I had an opportunity to travel to Boulders Beach near Simon’s Town on the Western Cape of South Africa. What makes Boulders Beach special is the colony of African Penguins that live there. These penguins are also called Jackass Penguins because of the sound they make sounds exactly like a donkey. What’s very cool about this place is your walking on a boardwalk above the beach and all the penguins are below you along with their nests. I traveled to this place several times during my trip but my first time was definitely my favorite due to the pictures I captured. I truly love going back and looking at these pictures from my amazing 3 months in Cape Town. Check out my other previous blog posts about African Elephants in Botswana & getting to spend an hour with some Baby Cheetahs which was truly a once in a lifetime experience.
Ok, how adorable are these animals!?
Wow! What a cool thing to experience! Love the shot of the one on the beach looking like he’s watching the other one swim. So cute!
Fascinating creatures! I want one. 🙂
Adorable! I just love your travel posts! It’s so nice to escape to a destination like this one on a cold, dreary winter day like today! Love your photos!

Thank you for capturing these moments that I could feel as though I experienced these creatures up close and personal myself! They are adorable. I wish you could have penguins as pets, lol!
I felt like I was there, too. I completely agree with Arica’s comment! These photos are so cute. Thanks so much for sharing these!
Thank you for sharing these! I love visiting the penguin exhibits at the aquariums but wow – to see some in person and document these and just be there to take it all in! Amazing.
Arn’t Penguins the BEST! I visited a penguin colony in southern Argentina and I felt like I was laughing the whole time. Personality in Spades!
